How would it work?
This is a walk-through of the idea. The dating service isn't open, and none of these steps can be done here yet.
How would I get started?
You could prepare a profile and browse a separate trial area for up to five days. You wouldn't see verified members or exchange messages there. Likes would be private drafts until verification and fresh checks showed that both people were still eligible.
You could choose one checked photo for other trial users to see. You could upload more pictures too, but those would stay private until you were verified and chose to share them. After the trial, you could keep working on your profile and verify later.
To join the main dating area, you'd need MitID, Denmark's electronic ID, to verify that you're a real adult. You could still use a chosen profile name. Your legal identity would be kept separately with tightly restricted access.
What kind of profile could I make?
A Standard profile for ordinary dating, a Hookup profile for more casual encounters, or a Pair profile for two people together. Each could have its own pictures, words and preferences. People seeing one wouldn't automatically learn about the others. Only one version of each profile type could be active at a time.
Both people in a Pair would have to agree to be represented, and either could leave. One person could manage it for a consenting partner who doesn't have an account, but that wouldn't make the partner verified. How to confirm that partner's adulthood and consent still needs to be settled before offering it.
Would I have to show everything about myself?
No. Some answers could be public, some could help privately with matching, and others could be left unanswered. Face Private could let you browse without a clear public face photo. You'd have to show interest before a particular person could see that photo; their Like alone wouldn't reveal it.
For example, you could keep very personal sexual preferences off your profile while choosing to use them for matching. If you both kept those answers private, the service wouldn't tell either of you that you shared a preference. The answers could still help it suggest compatible people.
You could choose when other private pictures become available. Showing your face wouldn't automatically unlock the rest.
What would I see while browsing?
You could pick more pictures, more text or a mixture, then choose which public details come first. Hobbies before photos? You could do that. The basic details would stay visible, and the full profile would be easy to open.
Optional short AI summaries would need the profile owner's approval. Without one, you'd get their own words. You could also answer an optional profile question as you came across it, without leaving the page. See What would I see while swiping? for that and the proposed quick-swipe view.
What if I'm interested but not ready to decide?
You could Like, choose Maybe, Read later or Not now.
A new Like would initially give you 15 minutes to take it back before it becomes visible. Maybe would keep a profile aside for 30 days, with one possible extension. Read later would be the shorter list, initially a week, with up to two extensions. Letting either list expire wouldn't send a rejection.
Not now would put a profile aside until a meaningful change, or until you chose to look again. A Hard No would keep that profile out of suggestions in the current dating context until you reconsidered it yourself. Ordinary dating and Hookup can be different choices.
A Block would stop direct contact immediately. Changing profiles or using a Pair profile couldn't get around it. See Likes, messages and saying no for more.
Who could start a conversation?
You'd choose who could send a first-message request: people generally, only people you've liked, or only matches. You could reply if you wanted to. Read receipts, typing indicators and online status would be off or hidden by default.
Could we keep chatting while taking a break from dating?
Yes. You could hide all your profiles and still talk to existing matches, even if the other person did the same. Perhaps you've met someone and want to see where things go, but still prefer chatting here. You'd need an active profile to search for new people or send new Likes. Blocking or ending a contact would still stop that conversation.
Could it help us arrange a date?
Once you both want to meet, a planner could suggest a time, public place or activity. You could share broad availability and an area for meeting without handing over your whole calendar. Optional arrival help, double dates and check-ins are also planned.
Would I have to pay for any of that?
All functions on the dating app or site are intended to be free, including seeing who likes you. A blurred picture would reflect the owner's privacy choice, rather than a payment request.
Possible venue offers would be clearly marked and wouldn't affect your dating results. Paying for a meal or event would remain between you and its provider.
We still need to decide which features make the first release.
