About Agnostic Knowledge
What belongs here
AK stores neutral background knowledge: things, names, materials, processes, places, time periods and the relationships between them. It also keeps enough context to say where a claim came from, how certain it is and when it applies. It does not decide a game's crafting recipe, price, unlock order, balance or fictional lore.
For example, AK may describe a cart wheel as an assembly involving shaped wooden parts and, in some variants, an iron tyre. A game can simplify that to “wood + iron,” ask for a deeper production chain, or replace iron with a fictional material. The simplification belongs to the game; the underlying knowledge remains available for other uses.
How quality is protected
New research begins as a proposal rather than silently becoming fact. A review checks whether the claim means what it says, whether its evidence is adequate for the intended use, and whether uncertainty, safety or licence limits need to be recorded. Accepted changes are added through a controlled path.
“Provenance” simply means the record of where a claim came from and what happened to it. AK keeps that history so a later correction can add a better answer without pretending the earlier one never existed. For ordinary facts, established general knowledge or one adequate reputable source is usually enough. Deeper checking is reserved for meaningful conflict, ambiguity, changing information, safety, licensing, politics, identity or a consumer need that justifies the cost.
Approximate time is useful when honest: a supported decade, century or millennium is better than a made-up exact year. Missing coverage and uncertainty remain visible so consumers do not have to guess what an empty result means.
How projects use it
Consumers ask for versioned results or use an immutable release, so the answer can be traced to a known state of the library. Other projects may request knowledge or submit corrections, but they do not edit AK's accepted records directly. Games remain free to choose their own mechanics and presentation. Facts get to be facts; designers still get to design.
Where it honestly stands
AK has a substantial architecture, working research and review paths, early fixtures, and growing candidate knowledge. It does not yet offer broad or even coverage across human knowledge, and some interfaces and recovery gates are still maturing. The current aim is a useful, connected foundation—not an academic accolade factory wearing a database as a hat.
The public boundary is intentionally narrow. Method, project status, aggregate coverage and curated safe examples may be published. The full corpus, raw source material, private requests, operational detail and database contents remain non-public by default. Safety, privacy and licence are checked separately before anything crosses that boundary.
